Savory Ways to Enjoy Your Next Bit of Chocolate

Savory Ways to Enjoy Your Next Bit of Chocolate

Because of its inclusion in the baking aisle, it’s easy to assume that you can only use chocolate in desserts. It might surprise you to know that chocolate can be incorporated into savory recipes, too!

Because of its inclusion in the baking aisle, it’s easy to assume that you can only use chocolate in a dessert. Chocolate and chocolate-derived items, like chocolate sauce, are often used as toppings or fillings for pies and ice cream. It might surprise you to know that chocolate can be incorporated into savory recipes, too!

Potato Chips, Fries, and Popcorn

If you’re in the mood to snack, this is a good place to start enjoying chocolate in an unconventional way. Here the chocolate is either used as a dipping sauce or topping as long as it’s melted first.

Ravioli and Pasta

Much like the next item on our list, you can prepare ravioli and pasta in general with an infusion of chocolate. Lace the pasta dough with cocoa powder, or fill it with chocolate pastry cream, depending on which you’d prefer.

Risotto

You might be familiar with risotto that includes mushrooms and herbs. This chocolate risotto is a different spin that’s no less tasty. Think of it as a more elegant version of chocolate rice pudding with some red wine thrown in for good measure.

Steak

Steak is delicious, and with grilling season in full swing, why not change up the flavor of your steak tonight? Chocolate, ground coffee, and coconut flakes make for a delicious combination. It’s smoky, and best of all you can prepare it ahead of time – just let it marinate in the fridge!

Chili Con Carne

This is another stew that you should try, even if you have to wait until the first chill of fall. Dark chocolate squares are added to chili – simple enough, right? It brings out the flavor of the chili, but be sure to serve with either focaccia or sourdough bread to soak up every last bit of sauce!

Beef Stew Stuffed Potatoes

Sometimes you just want something hearty and comforting. This dish is much better suited for the cold weather of fall and winter, but that shouldn’t discourage you from having it during the summer. Plus you can add red wine and dark chocolate as a dreamy dessert, which we already know makes a great pairing!
