Reindeer Corn: A Christmas Twist on a Popular Halloween Treat

Reindeer CornCandy corn has long been considered a Halloween candy. There is even a National Candy Corn Day…the day before Halloween (duh!). And Americans love this tasty treat, consuming an incredible 35 million pounds annually. That’s about nine billion pieces of candy corn.

The History of Candy Corn

Candy corn was invented by George Renninger, a candymaker from Philadelphia, sometime in the 1880s. However, candy corn did not become popular until the 20th century when Jelly Belly Candy Co., then Goelitz Confectionery Company, began to mass-produce candy corn. Except back then it wasn’t known as candy corn, it was called “Chicken Feed.” The candy’s slogan: “something worth crowing for.”
